Pet Blood Bank UK
Did you know your dog could help save the lives of others by simply registering them to become a pet blood donor? Just like hospitals need blood donors for humans, veterinary practices across the UK need dog blood donors to help with life saving blood transfusions.
Pet Blood Bank was set up in 2007 and is the only Pet Blood Bank charity in the UK. Every unit of blood collected can help save up to 4 dogs lives. The charity aims to raise awareness of the importance of dogs giving blood to support the needs of sick and injured dogs which need lifesaving blood transfusions.
If you would like your dog to be considered as a donor there are certain criteria that they need to meet.
Dog Donors should:
- be aged between one and eight years old
- weigh more than 25kg
- have a good temperament
- never have travelled abroad
- be up to date on all vaccinations
- be fit and healthy
- not be on any medication
If your dog meets the criteria please visit Pet Blood Bank to find out more information. Please help raise awareness of the importance of this life saving charity, more info here
